Central Park Ice Festival
Everyone loves Belvedere Castle, but what people might love even more is a Belvedere Castle sculpture made out of ice.
Saturday, January 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, Okamoto Studios will delight New Yorkers as they transform large blocks of ice into sculptures of famous Central Park landmarks. If you can’t get to the park until after sunset, the ice sculptures will be illuminated at night. To warm up, central park visitors can buy hot chocolate from the Van Leeuwen food truck. Van Leeuwen makes all their products from scratch, locally, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn so eating their products is a unique New York experience in itself. While you’re sipping your hot chocolate and watching exquisite icy works of art being made before your eyes, you can also listen to Conservancy Discovery Guides tell stories about the design of Bethesda Terrace. Best of all, the event is free!
